Yet tape with it's superior bit-rate, economic
cost and instant archiving, is still
around.
Now though, as storage becomes ever cheaper,
drives become more reliable and file transfer of
programme content is becoming the preferred
medium of distribution, tapes days may now
really be numbered.
Even though files can be transferred-with built
in QC-direct to the automation system, ingest of
tapes will still be needed as older content is
still only available on tape
