Long term storage of media content is usually tape based. It is economic and has been tested for archival permanence. With the advent of much cheaper hard drive storage and now flash drive systems, TV publishers have moved towards a fully tapeless environment. As we move towards a Hi def broadcast system, files must become much larger, requiring mirroring and RAID 10 storage to ease corruption and data destruction issues.
The critical key to finding stored content depends on entered metadata. This has been described as the data about the data. This portion of the file is the information that is searched for by databases, or rights management processes
